My Mary Native Azalea (Rhododendron) – 3 Gallon Pot

Winner of the Rhododendron Of The Year Award by the American Rhododendron Society, for the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, North East, South central and Southwest regions, ‘My Mary’ Native Azalea is an absolutely beautiful hybrid that produces abundant clusters of wonderfully fragrant and uniquely colored shades of soft to light yellow funnel-shaped flowers with contrasting orange-red tubes and elegant, long stamens protruding well beyond the flower. Blooming in mid to late spring (depending on location), My Mary is a truly brilliant floral display in shady landscape or woodland borders. The rich green thick leaves are insect resistant and mildew free on a plant that grows to only 5 or 6 feet in height and 4 to 5 feet wide, which makes it a good fit in smaller garden spaces.

A cross between Rhododendron ‘Nacoochee’ and Rhododendron austrinum, ‘My Mary’ was introduced by George Beasley of Georgia and named after his wife.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 5 to 6 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide, My Mary Native Azalea is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in woodland borders or other areas of the landscape that provide dappled shade and moist but well-drained soils rich in organic matter. Its smaller size makes My Mary a great choice for smaller garden spaces and containers. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, Azalea gardens, yellow theme gardens, woodland gardens, native plant gardens, and cottage gardens. 

Suggested Spacing:  We do not suggest planting this beauty as a hedge. Space plants 10 feet or more for space between plants

The My Mary Native Azalea is very easy to grow in moist but well-drained, humus rich soil and dappled shade or morning sun with afternoon shade. Native azaleas are very low-maintenance, requiring little if any pruning. That said, they respond well to pruning for shaping purposes, but not so much that it would spoil the natural form of this beautiful shrub!
